Care: Redfoot tortoises thrive in warm, humid environments with plenty of floor space to explore. Provide a moisture-retaining substrate such as cypress mulch, coconut husk, or a suitable soil mix, along with hides, a shallow water dish, and access to both warmer and cooler areas. Maintain high humidity, particularly for younger animals, and provide appropriate UVB lighting and heat. Their diet should consist primarily of leafy greens, vegetables, weeds, and some fruit, with occasional appropriate animal-based protein.
Facts: Redfoot tortoises are native to South America and are easily recognized by the red, orange, or yellow markings on their legs, head, and tail. They are active, curious tortoises and can become accustomed to regular interaction with their keeper. With proper care, they can live for 50 years or longer.
