Giant Zombie Land Crab!
DESCRIPTION
Care
Enclosure: A minimum enclosure size of 4’ × 2’ is recommended for one adult zombie land crab. Larger enclosures are encouraged. Provide a secure lid, multiple hiding areas, and plenty of space for digging and exploring.
Temperature: Maintain temperatures between 75–85°F, with a warm area around 82–85°F.
Humidity: Maintain humidity around 75–90%. Proper ventilation is important to prevent stagnant air and mold growth.
Substrate: Provide at least 6–8 inches of a moist mixture of coconut fiber, organic topsoil, and sand. Deeper substrate is preferred, as these crabs dig extensive burrows and molt underground.
Water: Provide shallow, easily accessible dishes of dechlorinated freshwater and marine saltwater. Ensure the crab can safely enter and exit both dishes.
Diet: Zombie land crabs are omnivorous scavengers. Feed a varied diet consisting of vegetables, leafy greens, fruits, leaf litter, insects, shrimp, and occasional fish. Provide a calcium source such as cuttlebone.
Lighting: Maintain a consistent 12-hour day/night cycle. Low-level UVB lighting may be beneficial.
Handling: Minimal handling is recommended. These crabs are fast-moving, easily stressed, and capable of delivering painful pinches.
Molting: Zombie land crabs molt underground and require deep, moist substrate to complete the process safely. Never disturb a crab while molting.
