Care:
Black House Snakes are hardy, adaptable snakes that make excellent captives. They do best in a secure enclosure with multiple hiding spots and a temperature gradient. Keep the warm side around 82–86°F and the cooler side around 72–78°F. Provide fresh water at all times and maintain moderate humidity around 40–60%, with slightly higher humidity during shedding. A substrate such as aspen, cypress mulch, or another suitable reptile bedding works well. They primarily feed on appropriately sized rodents and should always have access to secure hides.
Facts:
Black House Snakes are African colubrids known for their glossy dark coloration and active feeding response. They are primarily nocturnal and spend much of the day concealed before becoming more active in the evening. They are generally manageable snakes once accustomed to regular handling. Females typically grow noticeably larger and heavier than males. Their relatively straightforward care, strong feeding response, and attractive appearance make them popular with both newer and experienced snake keepers.
