Care:
Mata Mata turtles are highly aquatic and should be kept in a spacious aquarium with clean, warm water and strong filtration. They prefer slow-moving water with plenty of cover such as driftwood, plants, and leaf litter. Water depth should allow them to comfortably reach the surface while keeping their feet on the bottom or décor. Provide a basking area and proper UVB lighting. Their diet consists primarily of live or appropriately prepared fish and other aquatic prey.

Facts:
Mata Matas are one of the most unique-looking turtles in the world. Their flattened head, long snorkel-like nose, and rough shell help them blend into leaves and debris underwater. Instead of chasing prey, they typically sit motionless and use suction feeding to quickly pull prey into their mouth. They are native to South America and can become very large adults.
