Care: Hermann’s tortoises are active, hardy tortoises that thrive in spacious outdoor enclosures during warm months or large indoor tortoise tables with strong UVB lighting and a basking area of 90–95°F. Ambient temperatures should remain around 75–85°F with a cooler retreat. Feed a high-fiber diet consisting of grasses, weeds, dandelion, plantain, clover, hibiscus leaves, and other leafy greens. Avoid fruit except as a rare treat. Fresh water and a cuttlebone should always be available.

Facts: Male Hermann’s tortoises are typically smaller than females and can be identified by their longer, thicker tails and slightly concave plastron, which helps during breeding. This long-lived European species can often exceed 60 years of age with proper care and is prized for its friendly, curious personality and manageable adult size.
