Amazon Basin Yellow-Foot Tortoises are large tropical tortoises that require warm temperatures and consistently high humidity to remain healthy. Adults should be housed in a spacious indoor enclosure or secure outdoor pen in warm climates. Maintain ambient temperatures between 78–86°F with a basking area of 90–95°F, and keep humidity between 70–90%. A deep, moisture-retaining substrate such as cypress mulch or coco coir works well. Provide access to a large water dish for soaking and plenty of shaded hiding areas. Their diet should consist primarily of dark leafy greens, weeds, vegetables, mushrooms, and occasional fruit, with a calcium supplement offered regularly. UVB lighting or natural sunlight is essential for proper shell and bone development.
