Crocodile Monitors (Varanus salvadorii) are large, arboreal lizards native to the rainforests of New Guinea. In captivity, their diet should include a variety of whole prey items such as rodents, insects, and occasional eggs to mimic foods they would choose in the wild. Husbandry requires a spacious, vertically oriented enclosure with high humidity (around 75-85%) and temperatures ranging from 80-95°F, along with ample climbing structures. These monitors are known for their agility, strong bite, and impressive size. They are the second largest lizard species; often exceeding 8 feet in length, making them suitable only for experienced keepers.
