Care:
Alligator snapping turtles are large, fully aquatic turtles that require a very large, heavily filtered setup. Provide deep, clean water with enough room to completely submerge, turn around, and move comfortably. A strong filtration system is extremely important because they produce a lot of waste. Water temperatures around 72–80°F work well for most individuals. Adults are primarily aquatic but should still have access to appropriate UVB and a basking area if they choose to use it.

Feed a varied diet including quality aquatic turtle pellets, whole fish, shrimp, crayfish, worms, snails, and other appropriate aquatic foods. Avoid relying only on feeder fish. They have an extremely powerful bite and should be handled only when necessary.

Facts:
Alligator snapping turtles are one of the largest freshwater turtles in the world. They are famous for their huge head, hooked beak, ridged shell, and worm-like lure on their tongue. They sit nearly motionless with their mouth open and wiggle the lure to attract fish within striking distance. With proper care, they can live for several decades.
