Care
Hermann’s tortoises thrive in spacious outdoor enclosures whenever weather permits or large indoor tortoise tables with deep, natural substrate. Provide a basking temperature of 90–95°F, an ambient temperature of 75–85°F, and allow nighttime temperatures to drop to 65–75°F. Maintain 40–60% humidity, with hatchlings benefiting from slightly higher humidity to encourage smooth shell growth. Feed a varied diet of grasses, weeds, dandelion greens, clover, plantain, escarole, endive, and other high-fiber leafy greens. Fresh water, calcium supplementation, and quality UVB lighting are essential for long-term health.
