Care:

• Temperature: Ambient 75–82°F; basking area 85–90°F (optional for adults but beneficial); water 72–78°F.
• Humidity: Aquatic species; maintain clean, well-filtered water.
• Enclosure: Hatchlings can start in a 40-gallon breeder, but adults require very large stock tanks, indoor ponds, or outdoor ponds. Provide deep swimming water, strong filtration, and a dry haul-out area if desired.

Facts:

• Native to much of the eastern United States, including Florida populations.
• Powerful jaws and defensive behavior make them best suited for experienced keepers.
• Primarily carnivorous, feeding on fish, insects, crayfish, snails, amphibians, and high-quality aquatic turtle diets.
